Considering all the controversy surrounding the “woke” Disney remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I thought it might be a fun exercise to watch and do my own review of the 1938 original again (I was probably five-years-old the first time), followed by the 2025 remake that’s taking a hammering in the media and elsewhere.
So, here we go…
“Once upon a time, a peaceful kingdom was ruled by a virtuous Queen and King.”
Sorry, folks, but that was not in the cartoon original. The original began with Snow White outside the castle, scrubbing the cobblestone steps. There was no “virtuous King and Queen” in the original classic.
“They named their daughter Snow White because she was born in a snowstorm.”
Nope. It was because her skin was “white as snow.” Oh, but we can’t have that! So, instead, we end up with politically correct light brown Rachel Zegler.
Well, why not? They turned The Little Mermaid black in that remake. Disney just can’t help themselves…
Anything to appeal to a “more diverse” audience, I guess.
“The bounty of the land belonged to all who tended it.”
Here we have Disney selling collectivism to your children in the name of so-called entertainment. And yet, CEO Bob Iger denies that they include any social/cultural messaging in Disney movies.
“Someday her destiny would be to lead.”
Sorry, folks, not in the cartoon original either. In that so-called “outdated” version, she longed to meet a charming prince and live happily after. Apparently, we can’t have that old-fashioned sentiment anymore.
“A beautiful abundance we share.”
Ah, yes, nothing like communism to create abundance beyond compare.
“Looking into the well, she declares, ‘All I see is water, and the seed of someone who will lead.’”
Can’t have a woman long for “the man of her dreams”, now, can we?
Snow White’s mother is Black and her father is White. Here’s the image again…decide for yourself.
And, just like that, Snow White is…brown!
What happened to “She was named Snow White because she was white as snow.”?
Disney is downright shameless in their revisionism. How can they take a classic called “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” – a film literally named after the lead character’s “snow white skin” – and cast female characters (both the child and the adult) that are “brown”? The answer is, they are shameless in their ham-handed efforts at political correctness and historical revisionism at the expense of tradition. They’re “Progressives”, after all.
At the beginning of the movie, young Snow “White” walks through the village sharing the bounty from everyone’s contribution, and feeding the poor.
But Bob Iger promises us that Disney doesn’t do this sort of thing.
“The Queen, an enchanting woman from a far-off land” appears out of nowhere…right after the King’s wife dies of a mysterious illness.”
Nope, not in the original either…
“She turned the farmers into soldiers loyal only to her, and robbed the riches of the kingdom for herself.”
In the original there was none of this. It was only about the Queen wanting to be “The Fairest in the Land”. Just good old-fashioned envy.
“The Queen turned the little Princess Snow “White” into a servant.”
Nope, not in the original script either.
Snow “White” becomes an activist and lobbies the Queen.
What!?
In the Disney version of this timeless classic, the charming prince is replaced by “Homeless Man” who lives in the woods and is known as the “Leader of the Bandits”.
Who comes up with ideas like this? The answer is, a company more focused on selling an ideology to young children than a movie.
He gets caught breaking into the castle to steal food…
What?? The rich, handsome, prince who rides in on his trusty steed and spots the princess scrubbing the cobblestone steps in the original, is replaced by a homeless guy caught breaking into the castle stealing food from the queen? Please…
The princess lobbies the queen to spare him, but she failed.
So much for female empowerment.
Homeless Man is tied to the castle gate by the queen’s soldiers to freeze to death in the brutal winter weather, but Princess Snow “White” rushes to his aid, unties him, gives him a piece of bread, and sends him on his way with best wishes. LOL
Quite a script change from the original.
There’s also a plethora of ridiculous new songs about overcoming oppression, and, looking into the wishing well, singing about “Becoming the girl I was meant to be,” rather than to see the prince again, as in the original. Disney even eliminated the original theme song!
So much for that whole prince theme in the original, sacrificed on the altar of feminism.
“Will she lead or just be led?” This theme is repeated throughout the plot, ad nauseum.
More anti-tradition tripe from “woke” Disney.
“Learn to be my father’s daughter.”
Quite the leap from, “Where’s my prince?”
Her father, the King. Someone who didn’t even exist in the 1938 classic. But if the lovely little princess is to grow up to be like her Daddy, the king, Disney had to create a king. No time for that syrupy, old fashioned, “boy and girl fall in love” stuff.
Hey, Disney, look no further than this to know why your movie bombed.
The scene switches to the dwarfs at work in the mines and then as they return home after work to find Snow “White” sleeping. This is where the film pretty much tracks closely to the original animated movie and they discover Snow “White” asleep in their bed. The scene then switches back to the castle where the queen learns that Snow “White” is still alive, and she hatches her evil plan.
Then, it’s back to the dwarfs at breakfast, where they have a food fight and make a mess.
I must have missed that part in the original, too. I could have sworn that they came home to a sparkling clean house, compliments of Snow White and the forest animals. But, whatever.
Snow “White” takes Dopey aside, attempting to teach him how to speak, but succeeds in teaching him to whistle, which is celebrated wildly by the dwarfs.
Next comes Snow “White’s” leadership skills as she lectured the dwarfs on listening, friendship, and cleaning their own house (!?) She, being a “modern woman”, does not participate in the housecleaning.
You can’t make this stuff up. But Disney did.
Snow “White” reunites with Homeless Man (who didn’t exist in the original), and the two of them hatch a plan to find the king (who didn’t exist in the original), who had disappeared shortly after he married the evil queen (which did not happen in the original).
Those original scripts always seem to get in the way when Disney decides to do a remake of a classic and produce another flop. They must have lots of money to burn. I wonder how their stockholders feel about that? We will soon find out…
All of the songs are wretched and wretchedly performed.
There is so much emphasis on the “message” in the lyrics that the songs have no flow to them, and the princess and Homeless Man are pathetic singers. But apparently the message was more important to Disney than the original plot in this timeless classic.
And then we have the unnecessary battle between the bandits and the queen’s soldiers, during which Snow “White” falls in love with Homeless Man, who takes an arrow for the lovely princess.
Battle? Bandits? Homeless Man? Shot with an Arrow? By the Queen’s Soldiers? Sorry, but I don’t remember any of that in the original.
“She’s poisoned everyone into believing that it’s everyone for themselves. But if we can give up our meager scraps, we will inherit what was meant for all of us.”
Yes, that was literally in the movie. Another subtle promotion of socialism by the capitalist Disney Company. WTF?
The sight of the motley crew of so-called bandits (who look like they couldn’t rob their own cupboard) and the CGI dwarfs together was head-shaking…
One Black dude, two Black chicks, one White chick (whose head is conveniently covered-up with a scarf) a real dwarf, and those lovely CGI dwarfs. Bring back the original plot! I’m getting a headache!
Homeless Man breaks out of prison with the help of a fellow prisoner (who just happens to be Black, of course). Homeless Man rides to her resting place, kisses her, and brings her back to life so she can fulfill her destiny of becoming the “leader she was meant to be”.
Where was that in the original plot?
And where the hell is the prince on the horse?
I’m so confused…
In the final scene, everyone is dancing in all white outfits as white flower petals fall from the sky in celebration of the newly-crowned Queen Snow “White” as she sang, “Time to lead and not be led,” and “It’s time to restore our kingdom.”
Good grief…
What, may I ask, is wrong with the idea of a young, beautiful, princess being rescued from a life of drudgery to live happily ever after with the man of her dreams? Disney can’t imagine that children would want to watch a movie about that?
Or, could it be that today’s liberal elites don’t want your children to watch a movie like that?
But it looks like moviegoers and their parents have spoken. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has lost over $300M and climbing, and it has the lowest IMDB rating in years (1.9 out of 10).
Better yet, movie insiders are saying that CEO Bob Iger won’t survive the box office disaster.
Justice has been served to a very deserving, so-called “progressive” company.
The Liberator
Absolutely why no one decided to watch this venal garbage… Disney had better acknowledge who their real audience is or end up in Chapter 11. Walt is spinning in his grave at 8500 RPM
Thanks for the movie review. 🤣🤣
Wasn’t planning on going to it, but nice to know exactly why it is the disaster that it has become.
How disappointing Disney has become. When will these people learn? Like you pointed out, hopefully the stockholders take action.
